The district uses Google Workspace for Education for our email, productivity suite, and LMS for grades 5 through 12. This account also allows you to sync your browser data, save passwords (when using the Chrome browser) and serves as your single sign-on (SSO) credentials to access a number of other online services including our help ticketing system, PowerSchool, printing and more.
Since your Google account is so important to your access at Mt. Blue, we require that all accounts have multi-factor authentication (MFA) enabled. You may also see this referred to as 2-step verification (2SV) or 2-factor authentication (2FA). For new staff, Google will prompt you to turn this on the first time you log in. For more information about what MFA is and how it works, check out this resource. For information on how to set it up, check out the page on Signing in to Google.
Reply All sends your message to everyone included in the original email including recipients listed as ‘cc’. This is useful when your response is relevant to everyone on the email thread, such as confirming attendance for a meeting or sharing important information. Be mindful of using Reply All as it can sometimes lead to unnecessary email traffic.
BCC is a way to send a copy of an email to additional recipients without the other recipients knowing their email addresses. This is different from CC (Carbon Copy) where everyone can see all recipient emails. BCC is useful when you want to keep a list of recipients private, such as when sending a group email to students or parents. It also helps prevent long email chains by reducing the number of people who can reply to everyone. Use BCC carefully to maintain privacy and avoid misunderstandings.
The district maintains a number of high level Google Groups designed to make it easier for staff to email specific groups of users without entering all of the email addresses. While the permissions on many of these groups allow anyone in the district to email them, you should be very cautious of when you do and what information you are sending.
